I wrote my last post quite a few months ago because I felt like my writing was trivial compared to what was (and is) happening in the world around us. While this is still true I’ve missed the act of writing and how much I enjoy sharing my world with you. I’ve had a few conversations with readers who’ve missed my posts as well so I’m going to get back to it.
Please understand that as you read my trivial posts that I know and take into account the terrible things that are happening as we speak. I cry for Palestine, the Ukraine, for Fauci as they pin the pandemic on him instead of the person who was head of the country at that time asking people to drink all kinds of poison to cure it. Way to dredge it all back up to again divert from the really important things like voting rights, Epstein survivors and files, and concentration camps. All those things are very important to me.
I’ve also been working on writing free style in a journal about daily life after reading The Frozen River last year. A friend recently introduced me to Suleika Jaouad’s The Book of Alchemy: A creative practice for an inspired life which has 100 prompts to write about from a variety of authors and other creative people. I’ve worked on three prompts so far and I find it to be relaxing and inspiring. Glancing ahead I read Jon Baptiste’s prompt about an embarrassing moment which I’ve had many of and I look forward to writing about several.
I’ve read a shit ton of great books this summer also and that will be another post entirely. Just this week I finished Max in the House of Spies by Adam Gidwitz which was a remarkable middle grade historical fiction and I finished the amazing Whistler by Ann Patchett.
We took a trip to DC in July and we were able to see some of my favorite people like my in-laws, his brother’s family, our three children together, and Amir Jones, our campaign worker who lived with us for 9 months and is now a permanent member of our fold. It was great to connect with him and hear about his life after law school.
I’m headed back to school next week and while I’m not ready to give up summer ( love my relaxed mornings) it has been a good summer. I don’t know why the Midwest is getting a the rain when the PNW and Colorado need it more than us but there doesn’t seem to be a fair balance anymore. Extreme weather is the new norm.
I’m back…and I haven’t even talked about the puppy that lives at our house!
